High School Boundaries Back to the Drawing Board

Department of Justice concerned about demographics of 12th high school, delays school board vote.

The Prince William County School Board will delay a decision on the boundaries for the county’s 12th high school, according to the Prince William County Schools.

The new school currently under construction will be located on Dumfries Road near the Hoadly Road intersection.

The U.S. Department of Justice has raised concerns, according to a release. Particularly, they’re worried about whether the proposed boundaries will create a student body that is different than the county’s demographic make-up.

“Division staff will talk with DOJ officials before attempting to craft a revised boundary plan that addresses the agency’s demographic concerns, along with community input, educational, and economic considerations,” according to the PWCS statement.

The timetable and planning process for the new map has not been determined, but the results will still require school board approval.
