Interstate 95/395 Construction: HOV Lanes Closed All Weekend

Motorists should expect similar weekend HOV closures throughout the summer.

Expect delays this weekend, and weekends for most of the summer, as construction projects close HOV lanes in both directions this weekend from Friday night through Sunday morning.

The full closure enables crews to work on overhead sign structures, pull fiber optic lines that are needed for future tolling equipment, mill and pave the new lanes and finish bridge work, according to a release from the Virginia Department of Transportation.

This weekend closings impact the full length of the existing HOV lanes, from D.C. to Dumfries, just south of Exit 152. The lanes will close at 11 p.m. Friday and reopen to northbound traffic at 10 a.m. Sunday morning.

VDOT says motorists should expect similar weekend HOV closures throughout the summer. The good news: The 95 Express Lanes project is nearly 75 percent complete, and on-track to be completed by the end of the year and will open in early 2015.
