WOODBRIDGE, VA — In four days, a GoFundMe has raised more than $41,000 for the family of a Woodbridge girl who was hit by a car. On Thursday, her family told Patch that they have been amazed by the community's support.
On Wednesday night, Jordynn Manning opened her eyes and blinked for the first time since she was hit by a car. Jordynn is still heavily sedated in the intensive care unit.

On Monday evening, 8-year-old Jordynn was hit by a car while playing outside her home on Nutmeg Court in Woodbridge. She was initially pinned under the vehicle until firefighters arrived and lifted the car off her. She couldn't breathe and went into cardiac arrest, her family said.
Paramedics on the scene performed CPR on Jordynn while taking her to a local hospital. A helicopter then took her to receive more specialized care once she was stable and breathing.

On Tuesday, Crystal Miller set up a GoFundMe campaign to support Jordynn and her family as she "fights for her life" in the intensive care unit. Chelsy Manning, Jordynn's aunt, told Patch that her family has been floored by the community's support; the fundraiser had passed $38,000 by Friday afternoon.
"It's so amazing to me that the community is coming together," Chelsy said by phone. "People we don't know, people we haven't talked to in years. It's just so amazing to me the amount of love and support that we're getting in this time to help the parents."
Chelsy said that Jordynn was playing with chalk, as she often did, before the accident.

"Jordynn is a straight-A student, energetic, fun-loving. She's an amazing kid," Chelsy said. "She loves her stuffed animals. She loves playing outside with her friends, playing with chalk, being adventurous in that way."
At this stage, it's unclear what Jordynn's recovery will look like. Doctors are most concerned about a potential brain injury. For now, they're keeping her sedated to let her brain and body rest. She also had broken ribs from the CPR.
Sherri Manning, also known as Gigi, is Jordynn's grandmother. She wrote an update on the GoFundMe on Thursday.
Sherri noted that Jordynn blinked on Wednesday night and showed some reflexive moment when someone ran a hand along her foot.
"Doctors indicated that these are good signs," Sherri wrote. "Baby steps, one day at a time."
Chelsy hoped that my sharing Jordynn's story, the family could encourage drivers to be extra cautious in local neighborhoods, especially as the weather gets warmer.
"My biggest thing is it doesn't matter slow, fast, how old you are, anything like that. Being in this kind of day and age and environment . . . we just need to pay attention," Chelsy said. "Kids are going to be coming out of anywhere, they run in the street. I just feel like that's the biggest thing here is we need to watch for our kids running around."
