Keep Organized and Save Time During the School Year

How to cut down on spending and organize your house.

With a hectic schedule, my family got out of the habit of keeping things organized during the summer but when school began, mornings became so stressful searching for things as we got ready for school and were late often.

So many times we couldn't find what we wanted and even though I knew I had it somewhere, I had to buy even more necessities. Being disorganized with three boys became more than I could afford, so we spent a few days organizing closets, drawers and bedrooms.

I made it a fun project with many rewards, like finding things we never knew we had, precious items we thought were lost and wound up with doubles and triples of school supplies to last a semester.

We repurposed containers just the right size to keep their toys and school supplies in. Youtube has a wealth of organizing ideas like how to organize a desk with a container for a dollar that worked out great to corral their games.

I used a wine bottle sections to create dividers in their drawers to separate folded sox in rows and it worked out great to keep their underwear neat, too. Sweaters, jeans and t-shirts were folded and stacked on end in the drawers so they could find

Many closet organizers that were found at the really came in handy, like hanging shoe racks and wall hangers with clear pockets that we kept the small toys in.

Since I didn't have time to cook the days we were organizing their bedrooms, we had dinner at their favorite restaurants in appreciation for all their help and the boys loved it. They were so proud of their organized rooms, they kept it that way and continued the habit to this day.

Having a space for everything made a huge difference in my life and most importantly, in my children's lives with less anxiety and giving me more freedom to spend time with them.
