WOODBRIDGE, VA — A Woodbridge home caught fire on Thursday morning while the residents were away, according to the Prince William County Department of Fire and Rescue.

The Fire Marshal's Office determined that the fire was caused by a lightning strike that hit the home during the storms overnight.

No injuries were reported as a result of the fire, authorities said.

Crews responded to the scene in the 4000 block of Tuscany Court around 3:30 a.m. on Thursday. When they arrived, firefighters reported heavy smoke and fire throughout the building.

The home sustained extensive damage, and authorities declared the home unsafe to occupy.
