Man, Dog Rescued From Icy Ravine In Dumfries
When a Dumfries man tried to pull his dog from an icy ravine Saturday, it turned into a double rescue for Prince William County crews.
DUMFRIES, VA — The icy snow and sleet frozen combination that state officials have dubbed "snowcrete" caused a Dumfries man to try to rescue his dog, Lyla, once it was stuck at the bottom of a hill.
But his failed rescue meant that emergency responders had to pull both human and canine off the slope Saturday.
Prince William County Fire and Rescue crews were called to Hudson River Court after a man slid several hundred feet down an ice-covered hill trying to rescue his dog, which had slid down the hill earlier.

Both man and dog were unable to climb back up the frozen hill and needed help, according to the department's Facebook page. Crews reached both using specialized training, ropes and other equipment and rescued the owner and Lyla.
