Man Killed In Woodbridge Crash As Driver Runs Red Light: Police

A Woodbridge man was killed Wednesday afternoon in a crash where a driver ran a red light and crashed into the man's SUV, police said.

WOODBRIDGE, VA — A Woodbridge man was killed and three other people were injured Wednesday afternoon in a crash caused by a driver running a red light, according to the Prince William County Police Department.

Mohammed Khalil Abdallah, 77, was killed when the driver of a Mercedes ran a red light at the intersection of Minnieville Road and Smoketown Road in Woodbridge and crashed into Abdallah’s Toyota Highlander, police said.

The driver of the Mercedes, along with a passenger in Abadallah’s SUV and the driver of a Honda Accord, suffered minor injuries in the crash, which occurred around 1:20 p.m. Wednesday.

Charges are pending in the crash, where “speed does appear to be a factor,” police said.

Prince William County police said their investigation found that the driver of the 2009 Mercedes E350 was traveling south on Minnieville Road approaching Smoketown Road, “when the driver disregarded a red traffic signal and proceeded into the intersection where the vehicle collided with a 2016 Toyota Highlander that was traveling eastbound on Smoketown Rd through the intersection.”

The impact of the collision sent the Toyota Highlander into another vehicle, a 2000 Honda Accord, that was stopped at a red traffic signal in the turn lane on northbound Minnieville Road where the driver was waiting to turn left on Smoketown Road.

Abdallah was removed from his vehicle by fire and rescue personnel and taken to an area hospital, where he died from his injuries in the crash, police said.

The drivers of the Mercedes and Honda, along with a passenger in the Toyota were transported to an area hospital with minor injuries.

Investigators with the crash investigation unit are asking anyone who may have witnessed this crash to contact police.

The passenger in the Toyota Highlander was identified as a 64-year-old woman from Woodbridge. The driver of the Mercedes was identified as a 59-year-old man from Woodbridge. The driver of the Honda Accord was identified as a 72-year-old woman from Woodbridge.
