Man, Woman, Dog Fatally Shot In Dumfries Home, Suspect Arrested: Cops

DUMFRIES, VA — A suspect forced their way into a Dumfries home on Wednesday night and fatally shot two people and a dog, the Prince William County Police Department said. The suspect had a previous relationship with one of the victims, according to police.

Authorities identified the victims as 22-year-old Alyssa Trynese Gainey and 24-year-old Javon Alberto Williams. Gainey was pronounced dead at the scene. Williams was taken to a hospital, where he later died. A dog, male pitbull mix, was also shot. He was euthanized due to his injuries.

Police officers arrested a suspect on Thursday morning. They have not identified the suspect by name, as charges are pending. Authorities described the man as a 24-year-old who had a previous relationship with Gainey.

The shooting occurred around 11 p.m. on Wednesday at a home in the 17400 block of Isle Royale Terrace. Investigators determined that someone broke into the home and shot the victims in the basement. The suspect drove away before police officers arrived.

Authorities said the shooting was contained to the home. Investigators identified the suspect and provided a description of his vehicle to other local law enforcement agencies.

Officers with the Metropolitan Washington Airports Authority Police Department said they saw the suspect's vehicle in a parking lot at the Dulles International Airport around 2 a.m. on Thursday. Police personnel swarmed the scene, and the suspect was arrested without incident, the police department said.

The police department said more information about the shooting would be released as it becomes available.
