Marine Corps Welcomes Visitors To Its Museum On Thanksgiving Day

The National Museum of the Marine Corps, located adjacent to Marine Corps Base Quantico, will be open daily throughout the holiday weekend.

QUANTICO, VA — Are you interested in taking a break from the annual tradition of watching football on Thanksgiving? If you're looking for something different to do, the museum dedicated to the history of the U.S. Marine Corps will be open on Thanksgiving Day.

The National Museum of the Marine Corps, situated on a 135-acre site adjacent to Marine Corps Base Quantico, is open daily throughout the holiday weekend from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Admission to the museum and parking are free. And if you want to avoid cooking a turkey, the museum's restaurants also will be open on Thanksgiving as will the museum's store.

Located at 18900 Jefferson Davis Highway in Triangle along I-95, the museum offers an array of exhibits. The museum's collections document more than 240 years of Marine Corps history. The museum collects artifacts that chronicle the history of the Marine Corps.

The museum's theater will be showing the film "Superpower Dogs" on a daily basis, including Thanksgiving, in its Medal of Honor Theater through Dec. 31. The film, "We The Marines," also is showing on a daily basis.

The museum, a public-private venture between the U.S. Marine Corps and the Marine Corps Heritage Foundation, opened in November 2006 and now draws more than 500,000 people annually.
