Motorcycle Rider Dies After Sunday Morning Crash In Dumfries: Police

Police said a 46-year-old motorcycle rider from Quantico died on Sunday after a crash on Richmond Highway and Allen Dent Road.

DUMFRIES, VA — A motorcycle rider died on Sunday after a crash in Dumfries, according to the Prince William County Police Department.

Authorities identified the man as 46-year-old Jason Alan Whitaker from Quantico.

Investigators said Whitaker was riding a 2006 Shadow Aero VT750 south on Richmond Highway around 11 a.m. on Sunday. Police claimed that Whitaker ignored a traffic light at the intersection of Richmond Highway and Allen Dent Road.

In the intersection, Whitaker's motorcycle collided with a Hyundai Tucson that had a green light to turn left onto northbound Richmond Highway from Allen Dent Road, according to the police report.

The impact threw Whitaker from the motorcycle, police said. He slid into the intersection and collided with the front of a Dodge Ram 1500 truck.

An ambulance took Whitaker to the hospital, where he died as a result of his injuries, authorities said on Sunday.

The driver and two passengers in the Hyundai went to the hospital as a precaution. Police said they were released from the hospital on Sunday. The driver of the Dodge did not report any injuries.
