Around 1:30 a.m. on Monday, authorities received a call about Pina-Ortiz destroying property inside a home on Shannon Court in Woodbridge.

When police officers arrived at the home, they saw a naked Pina-Ortiz assaulting his father, according to the police report.

"Officers challenged the accused who initially ignored commands and continued to assault his father before briefly retreating further into the home," the police department said. "At one point, the accused reemerged and exited the residence where he advanced toward officers in an agitated state and grabbed the vest of a K-9 officer."

Officers released the police dog, who bit Pina-Ortiz. He was then taken into custody. The police officer did not report any injuries.

During their investigation, authorities noted that Pina-Ortiz assaulted another family member before fatally attacking his father.
