Officer-Involved Shooting at Wal-Mart in Woodbridge

Suspect broke jewelry counters in smash and grab before fleeing the store, according to Prince William County Police.

A police officer was involved in the shooting of a robbery suspect at the Wal-Mart at Potomac Mills, according to Prince William County Police.

The robbery suspect was transported to an area hospital. His condition was not released.

Police responded to the scene after 4:30 p.m. Thursday afternoon, according to police spokesperson Officer Jonathan Perok.

“The investigation revealed that an unknown man entered the store and approached the jewelry counter,” Perok said in a statement. “During the encounter, the man displayed a hammer in each hand and began breaking the glass jewelry counters.”

An unnamed off-duty officer followed the suspect out into the parking lot and confronted him. When the man ignored the officer’s commands, he was shot, according to Perok.

The store is located at 14000 Worth Ave., just off the Prince William County Parkway.
