Pedestrian Killed In Dumfries Crash: Police

A pedestrian died on Friday evening after a crash on Dumfries Road, the Prince William County Police Department said.

DUMFRIES, VA — A pedestrian died on Friday after he was hit by a car in Dumfries, the Prince William County Police Department said.

Authorities identified the pedestrian as 31-year-old Jamel Terrell Tanner.

No charges have been filed against the driver, who police only identified as a 27-year-old man from Stafford County.

The crash occurred before 9:45 p.m. on Friday on Dumfries Road, authorities said. The Stafford man was driving a 2013 Hyundai Sonata northbound on I-95 and exited onto Dumfries Road.

As the driver tried to merge, he hit Tanner who was walking in the roadway, according to the police report. The driver stayed at the scene of the crash.

Tanner died at a nearby hospital as a result of his injuries.

Investigators said the driver was not impaired or speeding at the time of the crash.

The area of Dumfries Road does not have a proper sidewalk on either side. There is a gravel shoulder to the right of the road after the exit from I-95.
