Police: After High-Speed Chase on I-95, Suspect Nabbed By Police Dog

Woodbridge man faces grand larceny, reckless driving and other charges, say Virginia State Police.

With the help of a police dog, the Virginia State Police and officers from Dumfries and Prince William County apprehended a Woodbridge man Thursday for speeding on I-95 in a stolen SUV.

The suspect, Timothy L. Osborne Jr., 24, tried to elude police by pulling off the interstate and then fleeing on foot. But a K-9 team (an officer with a trained dog) tracked him down, according to Corinne Geller, a spokeswoman for the Virginia State Police.

The police discovered that the 2008 Land Rover driven by Osborne had been reported stolen, Geller said. Osborne has been charged with grand larceny, possession of ammunition by a convicted felon, reckless driving, making an unsafe lane change, eluding police, obstruction of justice and driving on a revoked license.

The incident began at about 1:05 p.m. Thursday, when a state trooper attempted to pull over the Land Rover for excessive speed. The Land Rover was traveling north on Interstate 95 near the exit for Dumfries Road (Route 234), and Osborne refused to stop for the trooper, Geller said.

The Land Rover took the 234 exit into the town of Dumfries and went to Greentree Lane, where the driver (and only occupant) parked the vehicle and fled on foot.

The State Police, with the assistance of the Prince William police and the Dumfries Police Department, set up a search perimeter for the fleeing suspect, Geller said.

An hour later, at about 2:15 p.m., a Prince William police K-9 team located Osborne. He was taken into custody without incident and transported to the Prince William-Manassas regional jail. The incident remains under investigation, Geller said.
