The victims were 44-year-old Miguel Duran Flores, 42-year-old Kelly Victoria Sotelo, 19-year-old Kerry Ayline Sotelo, and 36-year-old Richard Julio Jesus Revollar Corrales.

Authorities confirmed that three victims died of gunshots wounds. They have not determined a cause of death for the other victim.

Maine is charged with four counts of second-degree murder and two counts of using a firearm in commission of a felony. He is being held without bond at the Prince William County Adult Detention Center.

Maine was arraigned on Tuesday, and his next court date is scheduled for Dec. 13.

If convicted of all charges, he could spend the rest of his life in prison, based on Virginia's sentencing guidelines.

Prince William County Police Chief Peter Newsham described the shooting as "senseless."

"This is horrific," Newsham said. "Every adjective that you could use to describe a tragedy could be used to describe what happened here last night."

Police believe seven or eight residents lived in the home. Two of them, including a child, were not home when the killings occurred.

The other resident who was not home has spoken to detectives, the police department said. Authorities said the residents have been cooperative and provided valuable information to investigators.

On Monday afternoon, investigators spoke to Maine, who they originally described as a "person of interest" in the shooting.

Maine called 911 about 4:30 p.m. on Monday, police said. He reported someone had fired gunshots from outside the home and multiple people were dead inside.

Newsham said Maine's account of events did not hold up to scrutiny.

No bullet holes were found on the outside the home.

Police officials said Maine left the home after reporting the shooting. Officers found him walking in the neighborhood and detained him.

"At this time, the incident appears isolated to the residence, and there is no ongoing threat to the community," the police department said in a news release.

Officers were called to a home in the 5200 block of Mansfield Court around 4:30 p.m. on Monday to investigate a shooting. When the officers arrived on the scene, they saw that the front door was unsecured and they entered to conduct a welfare check.

Officers said they found the four people suffering from gunshot wounds in different parts of the home. The victims were all pronounced dead at the scene.

Investigators are still working to piece together a timeline of events. They have not provided an approximate time of death for any of the victims. However, authorities believe Kerry Sotelo was killed first.

Residents in the area told reporters that they did not hear any gunshots around 4:30 p.m. The police department reported that they found a firearm in the home, but they did not say how many shots were fired or when they were fired.

There were no active protective orders for anyone in the home. Authorities said Maine did not have a criminal record, but he was charged with reckless handling of a firearm in 2021. The case was dropped earlier this year.
