Police To Conduct Sobriety Checkpoint In Woodbridge Area

The Prince William County Police Department will be conducting a planned sobriety checkpoint Wednesday night in the Woodbridge area.

WOODBRIDGE, VA — Members of the Prince William County Police Department will be conducting a planned sobriety checkpoint Wednesday night in the Woodbridge area to crack down on drivers who are under the influence. The checkpoint will begin at 9 p.m. and end at 1 a.m., the police department said Tuesday.

Officials did not give a specific location for the checkpoint. As part of the checkpoint, officers will pull over vehicles to determine whether each driver is sober or impaired.

The Supreme Court has found that temporary DUI checkpoint stops do not violate the Fourth Amendment rights of drivers, although several states (not Virginia) have statutes that prohibit sobriety checkpoints. Getting the word out to the public in advance, according to police departments, adds to the objective of conducting the checkpoints, which is to discourage impaired driving.
