Police Respond to More than 100 Crashes; 12 Involved School Buses

Prince William County also reports 40 "traffic obstructions" in the county as worst of snow hit during morning commute, school travel time.

The fast snow storm Tuesday morning led to more than 100 crashes, according to Prince William County Police.

Officers responded to 12 school buses crashes between 5 a.m. and noon on Tuesday. In all, police responded to 101 crashes. No injuries were reported.

The police suspended the crash response policy and limited its response to crashes involving injury or other extenuating circumstances — 70 crashes were noted, but did not have a police response.

Also, there were 40 “traffic obstructions” reported, including 18 involving school buses.

Prince William County Schools are already taking their licks from a snowy Tuesday that put school busses and students on the roads for a messy morning commute, eventually battling more than 4 inches of snow in some areas of the county.

School officials issued an apology regarding snow complications on Tuesday. The statement noted that forecasters were initially expected less accumulations and it was too late when it was clear snow would be heavier than expected.
