Prince William County Schools Make Weather Call For Tuesday, Jan. 4

PRINCE WILLIAM COUNTY, VA — The Prince William County school systemwill remain closed on Tuesday, Jan. 4. The school system will be closed on a Code Red on Tuesday, officials announced.

The decision to close comes after a snowstorm dumped several inches of snow on the county from Monday morning and through the afternoon. Thousands of residents were left without power as downed trees and branches impacted power lines.

All school building and offices will be closed on Tuesday. All activities that were planned to be held at schools will not take place.

In their statement, Prince William County Schools said the decision to cancel was based on forecasts of below freezing temperatures overnight, the need to clear roads for buses, and the need to clear sidewalks for students who walk to school.

There will be no virtual learning held on Tuesday.

In total, Monday's storm brought between 5 and 10 inches of accumulation, according to estimates from the National Weather Service. Road conditions deteriorated throughout the day, and local and state police responded to hundreds of calls for assistance.
