Robbery Victim Lured By Facebook Post

Prince William County police: Suspect in Dumfries heist is at large.

A McLean man who came to Dumfries to buy a cell phone he saw on Facebook was robbed instead, according to the Prince William County police.

The robber, last seen wearing a black hooded sweatshirt and a black stocking cap, fled the scene and has not been apprehended, police said.

Officers responded at 10:40 p.m. Monday to the 16600 block of Harwood Oaks Court in Dumfries to investigate the robbery, according to a police report. The 39-year-old victim told police that he made arrangements to meet with an unknown man at that location to buy the cell phone, which he said was listed for sale on Facebook.

During the encounter, the man displayed a handgun and took the victim’s keys and money before fleeing on foot, the police report said. No injuries were reported.

An officer with a police dog searched for the suspect, described as male, of unknown race, between 25 and 30 years of age, 6 feet tall and weighing 145 pounds with a thin build, short hair and a mustache.
