An 11-year-old boy prompted the evacuation of Covington-Harper Elementary School Monday after scribbling a bomb threat on a bathroom stall.

DUMFRIES, VA—An 11-year-old boy prompted the evacuation of Covington-Harper Elementary School Monday after scribbling a bomb threat on a bathroom stall, according to Prince William County Police. The boy was charged Tuesday with knowingly communicating a false threat to bomb and released to the custody of a family member.

Around 2 p.m., police arrived at the school, 2500 River Heritage Boulevard, for a reported bomb threat. School officials said the note was found written in a bathroom stall around 1:50 p.m. Students, faculty and staff were immediately evacuated.

After a search of the property and surrounding areas, with the help of K-9 units, the threat was deemed not credible. Further investigation Tuesday by a school resource officer revealed the culprit.
