Shooting In Dumfries Damages An Apartment And A Vehicle: Police

DUMFRIES, VA — An apartment and a vehicle were struck by bullets at a Dumfries apartment complex on Saturday evening, according to the Prince William County Police Department. Nobody was harmed in the shooting, police said.

Emanuel James, an 18-year-old Dumfries resident, was arrested in connection with the shooting. Officers are still seeking information about other people who were involved in the incident.

On Saturday, March 20, police officers received reports of shots fired in the 3400 block of Allerton Court in Dumfries. Residents of the apartment complex told police they heard gun shots before several people fled the area in cars and on foot, according to a report published by the police department.

Officers determined that while the group of people were gathered in the parking lot, shots were fired from multiple guns. They found several shell casings in the parking lot, according t0 the police report. They also discovered that bullets hit an apartment and an unoccupied vehicle.

When officers responded to the initial call, they found multiple people in a vehicle nearby. The officers then observed a gun inside the vehicle. Before they were able to detain anyone, one woman exited the vehicle and fled the area on foot, police said.

The remaining occupants of the vehicle were detained without incident, according to authorities. The vehicle they were in was previously reported as stolen from the Woodbridge area.

Police identified James as one of the people in the vehicle, and arrested him in connection with the shooting. He is charged with shooting into an occupied dwelling and reckless handling of a firearm. His court date is scheduled for Friday, March 26.

Authorities said that Saturday's shooting was not a random incident, and detectives are looking to speak with anyone who might have more information. The department's Violent Crime Bureau is investigating what events could have led to the shooting.
