WOODBRIDGE, VA — A man stabbed a woman at a house in Woodbridge on Thursday morning, the Prince William County Police Department said.

The victim, who police only identified as a 30-year-old woman, is receiving treatment at an area hospital. She is expected to survive, authorities said.

The police department identified the suspect as 54-year-old Paul England. He was arrested on Thursday and charged with one count of aggravated malicious wounding. His court date is pending and his bond is listed as unavailable.

If convicted, England could face up to 20 years in prison, based on Virginia's sentencing guidelines.

The stabbing occurred aroun 4 a.m. on Thursday morning in the 16000 block of Crest Drive, according to the police report. Authorities believe England and the victim had an argument that escalated, and England stabbed her.

Another person in the home intervened, and England called for help, according to the police report.

When officers arrived on the scene, the victim was unconcious. The officers provided first aid until rescue personnel arrived and took the victim to a hospital, authorities said. The police department expects the victim to survive.
