Suspect Identified In Shooting That Injured 9-Year-Old: Police

The Prince William County Police Department has identified another suspect wanted in connection with a shooting that injured a girl in June.

WOODBRIDGE, VA — Another man has been accused of involvement with the June shooting that injured a 9-year-old girl, police said. The man, Jerell Joseph Blakey, Jr., is wanted by police after he was charged with attempted malicious wounding and the use of a firearm in commission of a felony.

Authorities announced the charges in a report on Thursday, Aug. 5. The police department noted that they have been unable to locate Blakey, and they are asking for the public's help finding him.

Blakey is accused of participating in the shooting that occurred at the Riverwood Apartments on Yosocomico Lane in Woodbridge on June 17. There, authorities said two groups of people exchanged gunfire before fleeing the area.

Shell casings were found at the scene, and one of the bullets traveled through an apartment and grazed a 9-year-old girl. The girl was not seriously injured and received medical treatment from rescue personnel at the scene.

Later in June, authorities released photos of people who may have been involved in the shooting. During the shooting, a tree and unoccupied car were also struck by bullets, police said.

At the end of July, one man believed to be involved with the shooting was identified by police. Wilson Doswell IV, a Dumfries resident, was arrested on Tuesday, July 27. He is charged with several crimes related to possessing a firearm, police said.

Blakey is the third person to be identified in June's shooting. He is described as a 22-year-old Black man. He is about 5 feet, 9 inches tall and weighs around 265 pounds. He has black hair and brown eyes, police said.

Blakey lives in the 12100 block of Colby Drive in Woodbridge.
