WOODBRIDGE, VA — Authorities arrested a 12-year-old girl after she held a knife to a girl's neck in a Woodbridge classroom. Officers also arrested another 12-year-old girl who supplied the knife, according to the police report.

The incident occurred at Lake Ridge Middle School on Tuesday morning.

A teacher intervened and suffered cuts to their hand. The student victim reported minor injuries, authorities said.

The Prince William County Police Department did not identify the two 12-year-old girls by name due to Virginia laws that protect the identities of minors.

One girl was charged with possession of a weapon on school grounds. The other girl was charged with aggravated malicious wounding, malicious wounding, and possession of a weapon on school grounds.

Both girls are being held at the Prince William County Juvenile Detention Center. Their court dates are pending.

Authorities believe that the girls had previously arranged to bring the knife to school on Tuesday. One girl brought the knife to the school on Mohican Road and handed it to the other girl, according to the police report.

That girl then entered a classroom, pulled out the knife, and held it to the victim's neck. The teacher was able to intervene and take the knife, police said.

The school resource officer identified the two girls involved in the assault and arrested them on Tuesday.
