Teacher's Assistant Assaulted Student At Beville Middle School: Cops
A teacher's assistant faces a criminal charge after he grabbed a student and pushed him into a door at Beville Middle School, police said.
WOODBRIDGE, VA — A teacher's assistant accused of assaulting a Beville Middle School student faces a criminal charge, the Prince William County Police Department said.
The boy did not report any serious injuries.
Authorities identified the teacher's assistant as 60-year-old Paul Opoku Ampem. He is charged with one count of assault and battery. His court date is pending and he was released on a court summons.

If convicted, Opoku Ampem could face up to one year in jail, based on Virginia's sentencing guidelines.
Beville Middle's school resource officer learned of the incident on Friday, according to the police report. Investigators determined that Opoku Ampem was walking in the hallway with a 12-year-old male student.

As they were walking, Opoku Ampem grabbed the student by the shoulders and pushed him into a door. The two then separated, authorities said.
The school's nurse evaluated the student, but he did not report any injuries.
According to the school's staff directory, Opoku Ampem worked with special education students.
