WOODBRIDGE, VA — An 18-year-old man was fatally shot in Woodbridge on Tuesday morning, according to the Prince William County Police Department. Authorities are still investigating what led to the shooting and who was responsible.

The police department has not released the name of the 18-year-old victim as they work to notify his family.

Authorities did not provide any information about potential suspects on Tuesday morning. The police report noted that the shooting does not appear to be random.

The shooting occurred around 1 a.m. on Tuesday morning the 14100 block of Big Crest Lane in Woodbridge. Investigators said the victim and a "juvenile acquaintance" were in the area when someone shot the man in the upper body.

"After the shooting, the acquaintance contacted police to report his friend had been shot before disconnecting and leaving the area," the police department said in a report.

When police officers initially arrived in the area, they could not find the victim, his friend, or the shooter, authorities said. As officers investigated the shooting, the victim and his friend arrived at an area hospital.

A helicopter took the victim to a trauma center, where he died as a result of his injuries on Tuesday morning.

The police department reported that the shooting does not appear to be random, and detectives are still following up on potential leads.
