Uber Driver Abducted, Forced To Withdraw Money From ATM: Police

An Uber driver was abducted at gunpoint Tuesday morning and forced to withdraw money from an ATM machine in Woodbridge, police said.

WOODBRIDGE, VA — An Uber driver was kidnapped at gunpoint by a passenger and forced to withdraw money from an ATM machine in Woodbridge early Tuesday morning, according to the Prince William County Police Department.

After he withdrew the money, the suspect forced the Uber driver, a 55-year-old man, to continue to drive. As the victim was driving, he saw a marked police vehicle at the intersection of Dale Blvd. and Benita Fitzgerarld Drive in Woodbridge. The victim parked his car in front of the police vehicle at about 2:50 a.m. Tuesday, at which point the suspect fled on foot, the police said.

The Uber driver contacted the officer, who was off-duty, and reported the encounter. No injuries were reported.

A police K-9 and a Fairfax County Police Department helicopter responded to search the area for the suspect who was not located.

The suspect, who is wanted for armed robbery and abduction, is described as a black male, about 18 years old, five-feet eight-inches tall and 160 pounds. The suspect was last seen wearing a black puffy-style jacket, black hooded sweatshirt, blue surgical mask, clear latex-style gloves and dark-colored pants.
