Unattended Cooking Sparks House Fire, Displacing 6: Authorities
A home caught fire in Woodbridge on Sunday, displacing 6 people. Investigators said unattended cooking sparked the blaze.

WOODBRIDGE, VA — A house fire displaced six people in Woodbridge on Sunday evening, according to the Prince William County Department of Fire and Rescue.
No injuries were reported in the blaze. The home sustained extensive damage and the county's building official deemed the home unsafe to occupy.
The fire broke out around 6:45 p.m. on Sunday in the 13000 block of Kenmar Drive. When firefighting crews arrived on the scene, they saw heavy fire and smoke showing from the back of the house.

Authorities reported that the fire was quickly extinguished. The six displaced residents, three adults and three children, are receiving assistance from the American Red Cross.
Investigators later determined that the fire was caused by unattended cooking in the garage.

"Kitchen and cooking fires are the leading type of fire causes in residential properties," the fire marshal's office said. "Cooking operations should always be monitored and observed."
