VA State Trooper Injured In Crash In Prince William County

A Woodbridge man is facing charges after authorities said he led police on two separate chases Friday.

PRINCE WILLIAM COUNTY, VA — A Virginia State Police trooper was injured Friday following a traffic pursuit on Interstate 95 in Prince William County.

Shortly after 3 p.m., the agency said Fairfax County police located a vehicle tied to a possible domestic abduction call out of Prince William County. Fairfax police followed the car, a 2011 Dodge Nitro, until troopers arrived and tried to stop the driver.

According to police, the driver refused to stop and police initiated a pursuit. The chase continued from Interstate 95 northbound onto Interstate 495 eastbound, where it ended at the Maryland state line.

Around 4:45 p.m., Prince William County police spotted the same car near Dale City. According to police, officers attempted to stop the driver and a second pursuit was initiated.

With assistance from Virginia State Police, the pursuit continued onto Interstate 95 northbound, where a trooper attempted a maneuver to stop the suspect vehicle near the Prince William County Parkway. Police said the maneuver led the Dodge to try to drive southbound on Interstate 95 in the northbound lanes.

While driving southbound, the suspect vehicle struck a responding trooper’s vehicle as well as two uninvolved cars.

The driver of the Dodge, identified as Carlos A. Gomez Lozano of Woodbridge, then attempted to flee on foot, police said, but eventually was taken into custody.

The trooper whose car was struck suffered minor injuries but did not have to be taken to an area hospital.
