A vehicle sped towards people in a commuter lot on Saturday. It struck two pedestrians after a man fired gunshots at it in self-defense.
WOODBRIDGE, VA — An argument at a Woodbridge commuter lot escalated on Saturday evening. One man fired gunshots at a vehicle that sped towards a vehicle with three children, police said. The vehicle then struck two pedestrians.
Officers with the Prince William County Police Department responded to the Horner Commuter Lot at 7:25 p.m. on Saturday to investigate the incident.
It began as an argument between two acquaintances, the police department said in its report. The victim, a 27-year-old woman, was in a vehicle with 42-year-old Enoc Espinal Estrada.

Police claimed that Estrada assaulted and choked the woman during the argument and stopped her from exiting the vehicle. Eventually, the victim escaped the vehicle with her 5-year-old daughter. They ran to another vehicle in the lot to seek assistance, police said.
People in the lot heard the victim and exited their vehicles to assist her, according to the police department. Meanwhile, Estrada had circled the lot in his own vehicle and sped towards the victim and the good Samaritans, police claimed.

One of the good Samaritans, a 57-year-old man, pulled out a gun and fire multiple shots at Estrada's vehicle. At least one round hit the vehicle, police said.
Estrada's vehicle then struck another parked vehicle. An 8-year-old boy, a 5-year-old girl, and a 15-month-old girl were inside the parked vehicle. They were uninjured, though the vehicle sustained significant damage, authorities said.
Estrada's vehicle kept moving. It then hit the original 27-year-old victim and a 16-year-old boy who was trying to help her, the police department wrote in the report.
Emergency personnel took the 27-year-old woman to an area hospital; she suffered injuries to her leg that were not life-threatening. The 16-year-old was treated at the scene for minor injuries.
No other injuries were reported in the incident, according to the police department.
Authorities also said the 57-year-old man legally possessed the firearm he used in the incident. They also noted that he fired the gun in self-defense, so he would not face any charges.
Police said that Estrada returned to his home on East Longview Drive in Woodbridge. Officers found him and arrested him without further incident.
Estrada is charged with one count of aggravated malicious wounding, one count of malicious wounding, two counts of attempted malicious wounding, three counts of felony hit & run, one count of abduction, one count of strangulation, and one count of domestic assault & battery. He is being held without bond at the Prince William County Adult Detention Center.
