This is Why Your Lights Might be Flickering: 3 Reasons
Are the lights in your house flickering? Here's what to do about it: call Root Electric for help (703) 494-3989.

If the lights flicker in your home, there may be a little or a serious electrical problem that needs attention. It’s important to have any flickering light issues diagnosed by your residential electrician, but here are the most common 3 types of flickering lights and what they might mean:
1. One Light Flickering
If you just have one light that flickers regularly, it may be a problem with the bulb itself. Try turning off the light, taking out the bulb and then reinstalling it. Sometimes if the bulb is unevenly threaded into the socket, it will flicker. If that doesn’t solve the problem, turn off the lamp and move it to a different socket. If it illuminates properly, there is likely a wiring problem at the socket that needs to be fixed by your electrician.
2. Lights Flickering When First Switched On
Fluorescent and CFL bulbs often flicker normally when first switched on. If the flickering doesn’t go away for several minutes, or if a regular incandescent or LED bulb does this, follow the same steps in part one to see if you have a problem with the lamp itself, or with the wiring in the house. House wiring always requires a residential electrician for safe and effective repairs.

3. All the Lights Flicker All The Time!
Unless you have a bad thunderstorm raging outside (in which case, this can be normal), you might have a big problem on your hands. Constant flickering of lights shows voltage fluctuations in your electrical system which can cause damage to your home’s wiring, as well as any appliances or devices plugged into the system. This is a dangerous situation: call your residential electrician for assistance right away!
