DUMFRIES, VA — A woman and a child died after a wrong-way crash in Dumfries on Wednesday evening, the Prince William County Police Department said.

Authorities identified the woman as 33-year-old Dorothy Anne Fontain of Woodbridge. A 5-year-old girl also died in the crash, police said. The police department will not release the name of the child due to a Virginia law that protects the identities of minors.

Two other people, the drivers in the crash, were also injured. The drivers, a 46-year-old woman and a 33-year-old man, received treatment at area hospitals for injuries that were not life-threatening.

No charges have been announced in connection with the crash.

The crash occurred around 6:30 p.m. on Wednesday near the intersection of Dumfries Road and Fortuna Center Plaza. Investigators said a 2007 Chrysler 300 was driving northbound on Dumfries Road when it crossed into oncoming traffic and collided with a 2013 Chevrolet Suburban.

The head-on collision caused the Chrysler to spin and stop on a sidewalk. The Chevrolet stopped facing southbound traffic, authorities said.

The driver of the Chrysler 300, a 33-year-old man suffered serious injuries. The passengers in the Chrysler, Fontain and the 5-year-old, died at an area hospital after the crash.

The driver of the Suburban also received treatment at a hospital. Investigators have not determined what caused the crash.
