Woodbridge Woman Dies After Exiting Moving Jeep, Driver Charged With DUI: Police

DUMFRIES, VA — A woman died after she got out of a moving Jeep on Williamstown Drive in Dumfries on Saturday morning, the Prince William County Police Department said.

Authorities identified the woman as Stefany De La Cruz Moreno Medina, a 30-year-old woman from Woodbridge. She died at a hospital on Saturday morning.

The driver of the Jeep, Gustavo A. Barahona Benitez, was arrested on Saturday. He is charged with driving under the influence and driving without a license. His court date is pending and his bond was listed as unavailable.

Around 1:45 a.m. on Saturday, police officers went to investigate the crash near the intersection of Williamstown Drive and Route 1 in Dumfries. Authorities said Barahona Benitez was driving a 2015 Jeep Wrangler and slowed down to turn right onto Williamstown Drive.

As the Jeep slowed down, a passenger got out of the moving vehicle, police said. Officers found her unconcious in the road. They provided first aid until an ambulance arrived.

First responders took the passenger, Moreno Medina, to an area hospital. She died on Saturday morning.

At the scene, authorities said the driver was intoxicated and driving without a license. He was taken into custody, the police department said.

Investigators believe Moreno Medina may have been under the influence of alcohol, as well.
