Women’s Clothing Retailer Closing All 3 Virginia Locations

VIRGINIA — Avenue, a plus-size women's clothing store, is closing all of its U.S. locations, including its three locations in Virginia. The company will be closing all 222 stores in 33 states, according to Hilco Merchant Resources, the company carrying out the liquidation.

Clothing, shoes and accessories at the store are currently discounted leading up to the closings. The store sells plus size clothes in sizes 14-32. Hilco did not specify when stores would close but urged shoppers to act quickly.

"Avenue shoppers will be amazed not only by the incredible savings, but also by the great selections and styles available at the closing sale," according to a press release from Hilco. "Given the popularity of the brand and the seasonal trends, merchandise is sure to sell out quickly. We are encouraging consumers to shop early and take advantage of these offers."

Here is where Avenue has stores in Virginia:

• Kingstowne Town Center, 5926 Kingstowne Town Center, Alexandria
• Staples Mill Square, 9077 Staples Mill Road, Richmond
• Smoketown Station, 2936 Prince William Parkway, Woodbridge

According to Coresight Research, which tracks store openings and closings in the U.S., major retailers have announced more than 7,500 closings in 2019, which exceeds the total stores closures of over 5,500 in all of 2018.

Coresight said specialist apparel stores like children's clothing store Gymboree, women's retailer Dressbarn, Charming Charlie and Charlotte Russe have contributed to a majority of the closings.
