Woodbridge Freshman Football Runs Over Colonial Forge

The freshman team dominated Colonial Forge, 20-0.

If you didn't know, Woodbridge Senior High School's freshman football games work a little bit different than their varsity counter-parts. First difference is that in freshman ball, the team tends to run on 90 percent of their plays and only use the new-age forward passes as a last resort.

Secondly, almost everyone on the freshman team gets a chance to see game time action. No one rides the pine here as teams can cycle in four or five running backs and even more on defense. Another difference is the lack of star power.

Without announcers or roster lists, the secrecy and anonymity of each player is a little different. Crowds will be saying a lot of "Who's that #24 kid?" Lastly, kicking is optional. Two-point conversions are commonplace in these contests. With all of this said, football is football and it is definitely still exciting.

Woodbridge came out rushing the ball with a lot of strength and speed against the overmatched Colonial Forge squad. Cycling in four different running backs, fresh legs seemed to be an advantage for Woodbridge as three different players ran off huge runs against the defense, three of which turned into touchdowns.

Outside of a 45-yard Hail Mary pass, Colonial Forge could rarely muster enough yards for a first down, let alone a touchdown.  Woodbridge rolled on to win 20-0, but the margin could have been much wider as a long touchdown pass and a punt return for a touchdown were both called back due to penalties against Woodbridge.

The future looks bright for the varsity squad for Woodbridge after this performance. While still a top team in their district after back-to-back ten win seasons, Woodbridge varsity seems to have plenty of depth on their freshman and JV squads, namely at running back and linebackers.

Routinely in the game against Colonial Forge, the freshman runningbacks flashed their great vision, elusiveness and top end speed that'll make stars out of them under the bright Friday lights of varsity football.
