Police officers were called to an area hospital on Saturday afternoon after Buggs died at the facility due to a gunshot wound. The investigation took police officers to the area of Possum Point Road and Leonard Street in Dumfries.

Authorities said Lawson brought Buggs to the hospital and "provided detectives with an account of what led up to the shooting."

"While investigating the incident, additional information and the weapon believed to be used during the shooting were turned over to police," the police department said in a report. "Further investigation revealed the accused [Lawson] was involved in the incident."

Lawson was arrested on Sunday.

Investigators are still working to determine where the shooting occurred and what led to the shooting.
