Woodbridge Man Fires Gunshots While Leaving Parking Lot: Police
A Woodbridge man is facing several gun charges after he allegedly fired several rounds while leaving a parking lot in Woodbridge.

WOODBRIDGE, VA — A Woodbridge man is facing several gun charges after he allegedly fired several rounds Friday night while leaving a parking lot in Woodbridge.
James Dwight Novak Jr., 30, was charged with reckless handling of a firearm, shooting from a vehicle, carrying a weapon in public with over a 20 capacity magazine and possession of a sawed-off shotgun. No injuries were reported in the incident.
Just after 9 p.m. Friday, the Prince William County Police Department was alerted by residents about gunshots in the 13600 block of Mapledale Avenue. A caller told the police that an unknown man, later identified as Novak, was seen in possession of a rifle style weapon while in the parking lot, the police said.

The police learned from their investigation that Novak allegedly fired multiple rounds while leaving the parking lot and while driving down the roadway. Officers canvassing the area observed a vehicle matching the description provided, driving on Dale Blvd. and then parked at a nearby business. Novak allegedly entered the business and upon returning to his vehicle, officers detained him without incident.
Officers saw a rifle-styled weapon with a shortened barrel, a magazine with more than a 20-round capacity and several spent shell casings within the vehicle. While investigating, officers determined the accused was under the influence of alcohol and took him into custody.

Novak is being held in jail without bond.
