Burger Joint Raises Thousands For Daniel McCartney's Family
The slain Pierce County deputy left a wife and three sons. A Mountlake Terrace burger spot went all in to help them.

MOUNTLAKE TERRACE, WA - Red Onion Burgers in Mountlake Terrace raised a whopping $13,500 for the family of slain Pierce County deputy Daniel McCartney. The restaurant held an event Feb. 1 donating 25 percent of food sales and 100 percent of tips to a fund for the family.
McCartney was shot in January during a pursuit of several drug robbery suspects in Frederickson. He later died at a hospital. McCartney left behind a wife, Cierra, and three young sons.
"In addition to protecting his community, Daniel was a Godly man, a loving husband, a devoted father and a loyal friend to so many. The grief that we are experiencing is almost unbearable," McCartney's wife's uncle Kory Honea, the sheriff of Butte County in California, said after the death.

In addition to the Feb. 1 fundraiser, Red Onion donated 25 percent of sales through Uber Eats between Feb. 2 and Feb. 4.
However, Red Onion routinely hosts fundraisers with its "Dining $4" program. Every Tuesday night, the restaurant hosts a Dining $4 event, and has raised money for everything from the Oso landslide to Eastern Washington forest fires. The McCartney fundraiser is Red Onion's largest to date.
