Hundreds Were Sent Duplicate Ballots In Pierce County

The Pierce County Auditor's office said they fixed an issue that led to 350 voters receiving dual ballots.

PIERCE COUNTY, WA — A record-keeping problem led to approximately 350 Pierce County voters receiving duplicate ballots in the mail ahead of Election Day, according to the News Tribune. The newspaper reports the issue arose from discrepancies in the Department of Licensing system, which then appear in the county registration database. Voters who were affected said they received ballots for different name variations, like a last name containing a space or a hyphen, and were mailed a ballot for both versions. Elections officials identified the duplicate entries and merged them to ensure ballots will only be counted once. The News Tribune reports a new statewide voter system is designed to help identify name variations and flag duplicate entries.
