This Is The Most Dangerous Part Of Snoqualmie Pass: Study
This 1-mile stretch of I-90 at Snoqualmie Pass sees more than 30 crashes per year.

SNOQUALMIE PASS, WA - A single one-mile stretch of I-90 near Snoqualmie Pass sees more than 30 accidents per year, making it the most treacherous part of the pass, according to a new analysis by Seattle-based Davis Law Group.
That stretch is near milepost 53, which is just east of the Summit at Snoqualmie Pass ski area, and one of the few places to stop for provisions between North Bend and Cle Elum. According to Davis Law Group, milepost 53 saw a record 39 crashes in 2018, including one fatality - a 129 percent increase from 2014 when there were just 17 crashes.
The entire I-90 "danger zone" - a 42-mile stretch between the pass summit and Cle Elum- saw just over 400 crashes in 2018 in total. The analysis highlighted several other Snoqualmie Pass danger spots. Here are the 10 most crash-prone behind milepost 53:

Some of the biggest causes of Snoqualmie Pass crashes, according to the analysis: semitrailers, speeding, construction, and poor weather conditions.
As of Wednesday night, traction tires were advised for crossing Snoqualmie Pass, according to WSDOT. The road was bare and wet, but snow was forecast to fall throughout the day Thursday.
