Shooting In Mount Vernon Walmart Injures 5

Police said a customer, an employee, and three men involved in an altercation were injured by gunfire inside the store Sunday night.

MOUNT VERNON, WA — Five people were hospitalized with gunshot wounds Sunday night after an altercation between two groups erupted into gunfire inside a Mount Vernon Walmart, according to police. In a news release Monday, police said a 911 caller reported shots fired inside the store a few minutes before 10 p.m.

A preliminary investigation revealed a group of men entered the store and got into an argument with another group of men shortly before the shooting began. According to police, three 19-year-old men were injured in the shooting, along with two bystanders: a 72-year-old customer and a 24-year-old employee. Medics transported three victims to Skagit Valley Hospital, and the two other victims arrived by private vehicle.

Police said information collected at the scene pointed to the shooting as directly linked to the altercation and found no evidence that it was an "active threat event." Mount Vernon police ask anyone who witnessed the shooting or has other information that could help the cast to call dispatch at 360-428-3211.
