Washington Counties Certify 2019 General Election Results
Five close races in King and Pierce counties will undergo recounts after election results were certified Tuesday.

Counties across Washington State certified results from the 2019 General Election Tuesday, but some races were still too close to call.
KING COUNTY
In King County, city council races in Mercer Island and Redmond fell within the mandatory machine recount range.

Mercer Island City Council Pos. 1
Daniel Thompson - 49.73% (4,768 votes)
Dave Rosenbaum - 50.15% (4,808 votes)
Redmond City Council Pos. 1
Hank Myers - 49.65% (6,600 votes)
Varisha M. Khan - 50.15% (6,666 votes)

In Bothell, located in King and Snohomish counties, the City Council Position 2 race was separated by just a handful of votes, requiring a recount be performed by hand.
According to King County Elections, 49 percent of registered voters returned their ballots — six points higher than projected. 47 percent of voters returned ballots via dropbox, and 53 percent mailed them. Ballard Library was the most visited dropbox location. Recounts are scheduled on December 4th and 5th.
PIERCE COUNTY
In Pierce County, races in Sumner and the Bethel School District required machine recounts.

Charla Rae Neuman - 49.98% (1,095 votes)
Earle Stuard - 49.66% (1,088 votes)
Bethel School District No. 403, Director District 2
John L. Manning - 49.64% (9,071 votes)
Rick Knutsen - 49.22% (8,995 votes)
207,241 ballots were counted in Pierce County, with a voter turnout rate of 39.9 percent. Recounts are scheduled to begin on Wednesday, Dec. 4, at 8:30 a.m. All meetings are open to the public at the Pierce County Election Center (2501 S 35th Street, Tacoma).
