Washington State Parks: State Parks Commission To Meet In Richland

OLYMPIA – Sept. 3, 2021 – The Washington State Parks and Recreation Commission will hold its regular in-person commission meeting Thursday, Sept. 16, in Richland. 

Commission action items include approval of an amendment to the resource sale rule, Boating Program WAC updates, supplemental operating budget requests and Commission meeting dates and locations for 2022.

In addition, the commission will hear updates and reports from park staff about financial matters and the potential property transfer and sale of park-owned properties. 

A work session is scheduled the day before the regular meeting, on Wednesday, Sept. 15. Work sessions are open to the public; however, there will be no opportunity for the public to comment, and no formal action will be taken. 

The commission will tour Sacajawea Historical State Park beginning at 9:30 a.m. on Tuesday, Sept. 14. The public is welcome to attend the tour but must provide their own transportation.

BACKGROUNDThe commission has six regular meetings a year in pre-determined locations around the state. Time for public comment is provided at all regular meetings. A full agenda, including information about opportunities for public comment is available at on State Parks’ website.

The Washington State Parks and Recreation Commission is made up of seven citizen volunteers appointed by the governor to staggered six-year terms. The commission is charged with providing policy direction for the agency.
