3 Swastikas Found Near Bellevue Bus Stop

One of the swastikas, Bellevue police reported, had an "X" drawn through it.

BELLEVUE, WA - A Bellevue resident called 911 last week to report finding anti-Semitic graffiti sprayed near a local bus stop, according to Bellevue police. According to police reports, three swastikas were sprayed on the sidewalk near a bus stop at the intersection of 100 Avenue Northeast and Northeast 8th Street.

Police received the call around 10 a.m. on Aug. 18. At the scene, officers found one swastika with an "X" through it. About 50 feet away, police found two more swastikas. Police did not locate any suspects at the scene.

The swastikas were discovered at the end of tense week following the white supremacist and Nazi rally in Charlottesville, Va. The incident also follows a report of a white nationalist leafleting campaign in Lakewood.

Last Monday, at least two people in Lakewood found business cards from the Northwest Front white nationalist group left on their cars. That group is trying to a create whites-only state in the Pacific Northwest, and its leader has praised the white supremacist show-of-force in Charlottesville.

And on at least three occasions this year, police in Edmonds have found swastikas and other offensive graffiti painted on cars and buildings near the downtown area. Edmonds police have arrested a suspect in those incidents, however.
