NEWCASTLE, WA — A Newcastle home that caught fire Wednesday afternoon again went up in flames late that same night, according to Bellevue Fire. The earlier fire started around noon, briefly billowing white smoke, but crews extinguished the flames fairly quickly. Firefighters stayed on scene for hours and said they confirmed via thermal imaging that the flames were out before leaving at 4:30 p.m.

Shortly before 11:30 p.m. that night, 911 callers alerted firefighters the same house was on fire again. This time, crews arrived at the scene to find the house fully engulfed in flames. Because of concerns with the structure's safety, crews fought the fire defensively and were on the scene through the night.

Firefighters said Thursday it remains unclear if the second fire was an extension of the first or totally separate. Bellevue Fire said early indications do not point to suspicious origins, but the King County Sheriff's Office will investigate both fires.
