Reichert Says Trump Tariffs Mean 'Higher Prices' Coming

Trump is proposing additional tariffs on Chinese goods on top of $34 billion in tariffs imposed last week.

SUMNER, WA - Republican U.S. Rep. Dave Reichert has come out in opposition to a new round of tariffs Donald Trump wants on Chinese imports. On Tuesday, Trump proposed another $200 billion in tariffs on top of the $50 billion already being levied on Chinese goods.

Reichert said the tariffs will raise prices on consumer goods here in the U.S., and will mean lower sales of goods for businesses selling in China. Here's Reichert's full statement:

"American farmers, workers, and consumers are already hurting because of the placement of tariffs on certain imports from China. I strongly disagree with the Administration’s plan to place tariffs on additional goods, resulting in higher prices here at home for American families and less sales abroad for American workers and farmers as markets are closed to American-made goods through retaliation. I am committed to working with the Administration to address China’s theft of American technology and intellectual property in a way that targets the problem and does not further harm communities across America."

The U.S. Trade Representative on Tuesday released a list of proposed goods to be hit with a 10 percent tariff. The list includes hundreds of products, everything from seafood to chemicals, beauty products, purses, car parts, furniture - and even antiques over 100 years old or more.
