Learn the art of baking delicious sourdough bread in this hands-on workshop. Baking bread is both science and craft and you’ll learn the secrets to creating delicious and crusty loaves. This workshop will cover creating and nurturing a sourdough starter, tools and equipment, ingredients, prep, baking and troubleshooting. We will sample a variety of fresh sourdough loaves to talk about variations in taste and texture. During the workshop, we will mix, prep, and shape dough to take and bake at home the following day.&nbsp; Your class fee includes a glass jar with sourdough starter, a proofing basket to use and keep, plus written instructions and recipes. Students need to bring 1) a large mixing bowl 2) a kitchen towel 3) an apron (optional). At home, you will need a Dutch oven or roasting pan with lid that can be safely heated to 450 degrees.

You’ll learn what components are needed—from tanks and grow beds to pumps and plumbing—and discover where to find affordable, reliable materials locally or online. We’ll explore multiple setup designs, from simple backyard systems to more complex indoor arrangements, so you can choose the model that best fits your goals and space. Through guided discussion and demonstrations, we’ll examine how aquaponics works, the biology of the system, and how to select compatible species. We’ll also touch on the business and sustainability side—including how to market your organically grown herbs, flowers, or produce at local farmers’ markets or community outlets.
