Under a plea deal, he faces a recommended 15-month prison term plus community custody, with sentencing set for July 23 as the judge allows closely monitored release beforehand.

Moses Lake council to consider kratom restrictions (tri-cityherald.com) — Cle Elum is among several Washington cities that have already enacted restrictions on kratom, the herbal product with opioid-like effects now under scrutiny statewide. Moses Lake’s council is weighing options from a full sales ban to 21-plus age limits, following health officials’ concerns and similar moves in Grant County and beyond.
   

4. Palouse to Cascades Trail bypass opens, still faces atmospheric river impacts (seattletimes.com) — A national rail-trail delegation recently rode from Cle Elum to Seattle on the Palouse to Cascades Trail, underscoring how vital this cross-state route has become for long-distance riders. After a major washout near Snoqualmie Pass last winter, State Parks rushed through emergency permits and donations to open a temporary bypass, but a permanent fix could cost millions and still lacks funding.
