• Kittitas Valley Fire & Rescue announces next steps on search for new chief (dailyrecordnews.com) — Kittitas Valley Fire & Rescue is moving into interview rounds to choose a new fire chief, with a July 1 first-round session and panel interviews set for July 14. The panel will include representatives from Ellensburg city government, volunteers, the firefighters’ union, the sheriff’s office, and Kittitas Valley Healthcare. A final decision could come as early as August, affecting fire leadership for Ellensburg residents. 
• Authorities allege man billed former employer for stolen auto parts (dailyrecordnews.com subscription) — Ellensburg police are seeking a Yakima man accused of repeatedly charging over $1,500 in auto parts to a former employer’s account at a local Napa store. Prosecutors have filed identity theft and third-degree theft charges, and a Kittitas County Superior Court arraignment was scheduled for June 25. Store employees helped identify the suspect by photographing his license plate.
• Wapato Man Faces Charges After Traveling To Meet A Minor (washingtonstatenews.net) — Kittitas County Sheriff’s Office in Ellensburg arrested a man who allegedly drove from Wapato intending to meet a minor for sexual purposes. Detectives intercepted him in what appeared to be a park, and he’s now jailed on attempted child rape and related charges while the investigation continues.
