📰 News we're reading

• Enumclaw council sets property tax increase hearings (courierherald.com) — Enumclaw homeowners will soon have a say in possible 2027 property tax increases, with two city council hearings set for Nov. 9 and Nov. 23 at 7 p.m. at City Hall. The city is considering up to a 1% annual increase, and recent rising home values mean the median Enumclaw household already pays nearly $600 a year to the city portion of their property tax bill.

• October 2026 Community Calendar (courierherald.com) — Enumclaw families have a full slate of October activities, from Cole Street's Oct. 31 trick-or-treat closure to regular Coffee with the Mayor sessions for sharing local concerns. Nearby farms like Thomasson Family Farm and Maris Farms offer pumpkin patches, corn mazes, and haunted attractions, while Green River College hosts affordable continuing education classes on everything from Microsoft Office to fly fishing and fish smoking.

• Caught on camera: The debate over Flock Safety hits the streets of Pierce County (thenewstribune.com) — Enumclaw residents should know their police department is testing eight Flock license-plate cameras along major routes to and from town, and plans to keep the trial going. The story explains how these cameras are used across Pierce County, new state privacy limits, and why some former local officers and civil-liberties advocates worry about surveillance and transparency.
